Hey guys! Happy Monday! I popped in on Friday to share a new Friday Favorites with y’all, but before that it had been a while since I updated. The easiest way to explain my absence is to simply say that life has been stressful lately. A lot of my stress has been stemmed from struggling with living in Houston. To put it simply, I really miss Oklahoma and being close to my parents. So my attention shifted from updating this space to working on some personal things in my life. I’m planning on posting on here more consistently going forward because I have really found that starting this blog has been a great outlet for me. So we’ll start off with a little update on what’s been going on in my life lately.
What I’ve Been Reading
I feel like I’ve been flying through books this year. A few of my recent favorites have been What She Knew, The Couple Next Door and The Kind Worth Killing. I’ve been digging suspenseful books lately, so all of these have definitely been right up my alley.
In addition to the oodles of fiction books I’ve been reading lately, I have also been spending a lot of time reading devotionals. Lately I have found myself very envious of the closeness and steadfast faithfulness I see in women who have their life rooted in God. It has been on my heart to grow closer to God and work on my connection with Him. So I’ve been spending quite a lot of time strengthening my faith lately.
What I’ve Been Listening To
Podcasts, podcasts and more podcasts! I’m still somewhat new to the podcast world, but I’m a total fan and wish I had discovered how great they were years ago. Some of my favorites are Happier with Gretchen Rubin, Up and Vanished, Craig Groeschel’s Leadership Podcast, Sworn and Cold Case Files. If you’re a fan of Podcasts, please feel free to leave me some recommendations in the comments below!
Where I’ve Been Traveling
Earlier in the month I made a spontaneous trip up to Oklahoma to spend the 4th of July at my parents ranch. It was a much needed getaway from the hustle and bustle of Houston. I have a post in the works of a recap of my trip which will be posted later this week!
What I’ve Been Eating
My meals have been so fun lately. Since I’ve been following IIFYM (if it fits your macros) my meals are never boring. There is nothing off limits which is great for me. Although I do try to keep my meals healty and nutritious, I love the freedom of being able to incorporate anything I’m craving into a meal. Of of my go-to snacks lately has been plain greek yogurt with some Annie’s Homegrown Bunnies.
Chinese food is one of my favorite cuisines of all time. Lately for lunch and dinner I’ve been making teriyaki chicken and broccoli. Sometimes at night I’ll sauté some onions and a little bit of olive oil and make a teriyaki chicken stir fry. and serve it over jasmine rice or riced cauliflower.
For breakfast I’ve been keeping it simple with coffee, oats and eggs. I’ve been loving the Southwest Egg Beaters lately. I’ve been topping them with a little salsa for an extra kick. A wedge of swiss laughing cow cheese would also be great in them! Here’s a tip, you can totally microwave eggs and the consistency is great! I cook my eggs in the microwave at work every morning because it’s so much more convenient!
Where I’ve Been Working Out
I’m still frequenting Orangetheory Fitness every week and I’m still absolutely loving the intensity of the classes they offer. I was going nearly 5-6 days a week, but it was getting hard on my legs (shin splints are the worst!) so I’ve cut it back to 3-4 times a week. When I’m not at OTF, I’m at the YMCA lifting upper body or doing a leg and glute focused workout.
In addition to OTF and the Y, I’ve been turning one of our unused upstairs bedroom into a personal oasis for myself. My plan is to turn it into a home gym/blogging room. But so far, it’s mainly a pretty basic gym where I’ve been doing Yoga, stretching and some simple workouts using bands or bodyweight.
A few times each week I venture upstairs and do some bedtime yoga. It’s so relaxing to put on some white christmas lights and get in a deep stretch before bed. I wake up feeling so much better in the morning when I stretch or do some yoga flow before I climb into bed.
And that pretty much sums up what has been going on in my life recently. I’ll be back soon to share a recap of my long weekend in Oklahoma!
