Hi Friends! Happy Friday to you!
I wanted to start off today’s post by saying I hope that everyone that was impacted by Hurricane Harvey is safe and their homes are dry. Fortunately we were very lucky to have no issues with our home or vehicles during the storm. However, we have many friends and colleagues who were not so fortunate. I also pray that anyone who is in the path of Hurricane Irma stays safe.
Here in Houston we’ve spent the last week trying to regain a sense of normalcy since the storm hit. It’s really hard to get back into a normal routine knowing that so many still can’t even access their homes because the flood waters haven’t receded in their area. One thing that the last two weeks have taught many of us is that Hurricane Harvey brought an entire city together. Houstonians stood waist deep in flood water, side by side, no thought of anything but the desire to help. Many put their own lives at risk to help others. Houstonians became the example of how to live together, come hell or high water. That truly warms my heart.
In an effort to get back into the swing of things, here is a new Friday Favorites post where I share a short roundup of some things that made me smile this week. I hope you all have a great weekend!
Friends and Family
As I mentioned above, some of our good friends had really bad water damage to their home from the hurricane. We spent two days helping them tear up carpet and tear down walls from the first floor of their home. As sad as it was to see them go through such a devastating event, it was amazing seeing friends, family and neighbors come together and help each other out. There were even people walking down the street pulling ice chests asking if we needed anything to eat or drink. So heartwarming.
Hurricane Harvey Donations
The days following Hurricane Harvey there were multiple animal shelters and rescues requesting donations for pets. I swung by the grocery store and filled my car up with dog and cat food, collars, leashes and beds to donate. As I was on my way to the drop off location I heard that they were at capacity for food, but I decided to swing by anyways and drop off the other items I had picked up. They went ahead and took the food I had because they knew it would get used. It warmed my heart seeing how much had already been donated for the precious animals that were also victims of the storm.
LuxFit Exercise Ball Chair
Right before the storm hit I received this LuxFit Exercise Ball Chair in the mail. Since I worked at home for over a week I finally got to bring it up to the office on Tuesday! My coworker has had one of these chairs for over a year and has raved about it. I finally decided to order myself one on Amazon and I’m so glad I did.
It was a breeze to put together and it’s surprisingly comfortable. I was scared my lower back was going to get tight, but it hasn’t at all! Stellar purchase in my opinion!
truMedic Instashiatsu Pro Total Body Massager
I also picked up this truMedic Instashiatsu Pro Total Body Massager from Amazon and it’s hands down one of my favorite purchases of the year. This thing is amazing. Your arms are inserted into adjustable straps which allows you to control the intensity and pressure of the massage nodes. There is also 3 different speed settings and a heated option. This thing seriously rocks and was worth every penny.
Pumpkin Spice Nutpods
Hallelujah! Pumpkin Spice Nutpods hit the shelves on September 5th! If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you know that I am a Nutpods fan girl (especially when it comes to the french vanilla flavor)! I’m penitently waiting for their new flavor to arrive on my doorstep next week! Word on the street is that this seasonal flavor is amazing! Stay tuned to my Instagram stories for an update next week!
Ashley Horner’s Dialed to Slay Meal Plan
Today marks day six of Ashely Horner’s two week meal program, Dialed to Slay. I was craving a bit of structure in regards to my meals. Hurricane Harvey didn’t help my waistline either since I stress ate just about everything in the house. As of yesterday I was down 6 pounds (a majority of that was water weight obviously) and I’m feeling great! The meals get switched up every two days so it doesn’t get too boring. This isn’t a plan that anyone should follow for long periods of time, so it’s perfect for what I’m trying to achieve at the moment!
