One thing I absolutely love about blogging is getting to share snippets of my life with others. And I love reading blogs to get a glimpse into other people’s lives as well. One of my favorite types of posts to dig into are daily routines. I enjoy seeing how others structure their day and how it differs from my usual routine. Today I thought it would be fun to share an overview of my daily routine with you all! So I’m pulling back to the curtain and giving you a sneak peek into my day. Here we go!
My Daily Routine
I usually wake up between 6 and 6:30 each morning. Now that I am working from home, I don’t have to commute 45+ minutes to and from work every single day which is such a blessing. I’ve made it a point to have a structured schedule since I’ve started working remote at my home office. Right after I wake up I hop in the shower and get ready for the day. As soon as I’m out of the shower, I immediately make the bed. I’ve made it a point to make the bed every single day since the beginning of the year and I’m so glad I’ve adopted this habit. There is something so refreshing about having a made bed.
My husband is typically on Roxie duty in the mornings which consists of taking her outside to potty, giving her a morning treat and making sure she has food and water for the day. So this means I have time to down a big bottle of water (32 ounces!) while I’m doing my makeup, before I make my morning coffee. Water before coffee is another positive habit I’ve adopted this year. It’s a great way to jump start my water intake.
After I’ve downed water, I make myself some of the good stuff. My usual coffee which consists of 1 K-Cup of Starbucks Pike coffee, 1 packet of Splenda, 2 tablespoons of my favorite collagen and some French Vanilla Nutpods Creamer. Depending on how much time I have before my workday starts, I will settle in the living room and read my devotional before heading into my office.
I also try to open up my bible and read through the passage that morning’s devotional was centered around. I’m still learning my way around my bible, so the tabs I have on it are super helpful. I really adore this part of my morning routine because it starts the day off on an uplifting note. As a James Avery Ambassador, I was recently gifted this Crosslet Heart Charm to add my my charm bracelet. It’s such a sweet reminder that I need daily that I need to lean on Him for all things.
My work day officially starts at 7:30 a.m. I will work away until my stomach starts telling me that it’s time to head into the kitchen and prepare breakfast and grab another cup of coffee. I’ve never been one to eat breakfast super early in the morning. So my first meal of the day is typically around 9:30 or 10 a.m. Sometimes even later. This little break also gives me a chance to let Roxie out so she can potty and stretch her legs.
My breakfast is usually some combination of the following things:
Breakfast for me is almost always high in carbs (even on low carb days I will get a majority of my carbs in during breakfast) that way I’m energized for the rest of the day. I’ll make my breakfast and go back into my office and eat at my desk while I work. If breakfast happens a little earlier than usual, I will throw in a mid-morning snack to help tide me over until my next meal. I work until around noon when it’s time for me to power down for an hour and get my eyes off of my computer screen and disconnect.
Another habit I’ve adopted this year is going to the gym on my lunch break. If there is one thing I cannot stand, it’s a crowded gym. Thankfully my gym is a ghost town at lunchtime which means I don’t have to wait for equipment and weights.
I usually workout from 12-1 (we live 5 minutes from our gym) before heading home to get back online. Because I usually eat breakfast pretty late, I’m not that hungry at a regular lunch time. I pack some protein powder in my gym bag and drink that on my drive home from the gym. As soon as I get home I work until my stomach starts talking to me again, usually around 1:45 or 2. Lunch has been a hodge podge of things lately. What I end up eating depends largely on if it’s a high or low carb day.
I’m all about convenience when it comes to lunch. I almost always have some jasmine rice prepared in the fridge. So that usually finds it’s way into my meals on high carb days. The Chile Lime Chicken Burgers from Trader Joe’s have also been a staple for me lately. I pair them with rice with a few dashes of soy sauce. After I throw my lunch together, it’s back into my office to work for the remainder of the afternoon. I usually take a break to grab a quick snack at around 3:30 to help tide me over until dinner time.
Again, my snacks depend heavily on what kind of day it is. Here are some of my go-to mid-afternoon snacks:
- Rice cake with peanut butter
- Banana with peanut butter
- Cottage cheese
- Greek yogurt with graham crackers
- Arbonne protein shake
My workday ends at 4:30 and I try to make it a point to shut everything down by then so I can get some stuff done around the house and get dinner going. Sometimes I stay in my office until after 6 to work on blog related to-do’s. It all depends on the week.
I like to keep up with what I have going on, both for work and personal life, in my Erin Condren LifePlanner. I’m old school and prefer to write things down opposed to keeping them on the calendar on my phone. This helps keep me organized and stay on top of deadlines.
After I’m done working for the day, I usually tidy up around the house and figure out what we’re going to eat for dinner.
We’ve been on a HUGE stir-fry kick lately. The great thing about stir fry is there isn’t a whole lot that is off limits! I usually dig around in our produce drawer to see what we have. We always end up with a different combination of vegetables, but it always turns out delicious.
A few of our other go-to dinner meals are:
- Mini BBQ turkey meatloaves
- Slow cooker beef stroganoff (I tweak this recipe)
- Chicken Caccitore
- Seared chicken breast with green beans
- Cheeseburger Casserole (my husband loves this!)
- Trader Joe’s Mandarin Chicken
- Breakfast for dinner
After we eat, we make it a point to clean up the kitchen, wipe down the counters and schedule our dishwasher to run after we’ve gone to bed. I usually go wash my face and get into my pajamas so I can start winding down for the evening. Sometimes I’ll take a long bubble bath to help me relax. Other nights its a quick rinse off in the shower. After we’re in our comfy’s (our PJ’s), we’ll watch any of our shows that were recorded the previous evening or over the weekend and relax on the couch. I also spend some time on social media getting caught up on some of my favorite accounts.
Lately I’ve been ending my evening with my favorite sleepytime tea. It helps me relax and it signifies the end of my day.
I usually head to bed at around 9 p.m. The first thing I do when I get into our bedroom is diffuse lavender essential oil. Lavender has been a staple oil for our bedtime routine for a few years. We both love it and are convinced it helps us get a restful nights sleep.
I’ve always been a huge reader, so I almost always end up in bed with my Kindle reading a good book (I’m currently reading Behind Her Eyes). I love that my Kindle is front lit so I can read with the lights out and without straining my eyes. However, I’ve been known to stay up way too late reading some nights which makes the next morning get there a little too soon.
And there you have it. That is what a majority of my days look like! I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into my daily routine!
